Lana
Hawkins has many passions: singing with her jazz band, “The
Lana Hawkins Jazz Quartet”, rescuing otherwise hopeless
animals and finding them good homes, and staying on the
cutting edge of fashion.
Lana opened her clothing stor e
Lana's Boutique in November, 2004 with a partner named Dee Dee. The store was
naturally named, “LanDee’s”. Lana took over the store for
herself shortly after and renamed it “Lana’s”. After
realizing how starved for trendy fashion this area of
southwest Michigan truly is, Lana decided to bring name brands
into her store that are not offered anywhere around here,
which makes her store truly unique.
In November of 2008, Lana opened
her second store, Lana's Couture in Downtown Kalamazoo to
extend the availability of designer denim to professional,
mature women.
Lana loves to rescue and foster
cats and kittens in her store. These loving animals need
forever homes but have a safe place to stay at Lana’s until
then. Most of these homeless animals come from Kalamazoo
County Animal Services, where hundreds of homeless pets are
abandoned each year.
Lana sings with her jazz group on weekends at
Webster’s Lounge in the Radisson Plaza, located downtown
Kalamazoo. Her group, The Lana Hawkins Jazz Quartet, just
recorded a new CD called “Beyond the Rainbow”, which is
dedicated to the memory of her younger brother who passed away
in January 2007. |
