LOOK CLOSER: New Women’s Boutique – Lana’s Couture opens today!
November 7, 2008

It’s a grand opening celebration for Lana’s Couture.

Lana Hawkins has been selling clothing to the fashion-conscious college set on the west side of campus for several years. Her store, Lana’s Boutique, has been such a success that she decided to branch out. “I would have women stop in and say that they never knew anyone sold these brands in Kalamazoo,” says Lana, “And I realized that they already shop downtown,” so this expansion is a natural for her business. The new venture will be called Lana’s Couture, and it will fill space recently vacated by Acorn.

“Acorn shoppers will like this. Though it will be more contemporary, it will still be geared toward the fashion-conscious professional woman.” She will carry some familiar lines, such as Not Your Daughter’s Jeans from Acorn, and True Religion and Hudson from her boutique on campus, but much of her clothing will be new to Kalamazoo. “If you’re used to shopping in Birmingham or Chicago, you’ll feel at home here,” claims Lana, who will offer jeans from Paige Denim and Hudson; fashion lines from Laundry, Ella Moss, and French Connection; and even sleepwear from PJ Salvage and shoes from Naughty Monkey. “Downtown will be a much larger store than the boutique, so I can cover my clients from head to toe.” To complement her fashion lines, she will also feature jewelry from local artist Vicky Vanderheyden.

The grand opening event is tonight, Friday, November 7, beginning at 5pm, timed to coincide with Art Hop and the LOOK CLOSER events, and includes jazz musicians playing al fresco, and freeze models showing off the clothing lines. Expect it to be an opening that will set the stage for her to create a new, sophisticated fashion trend in Kalamazoo.
